Tamara - Three weeks following the resignation of Ermolai and his cabinet, President Simon Aioviḱara of Agausia has put forward a new group of ministers. The parliament now has until June fourteenth to approve the new government before going on summer recess. This marks Aioviḱara's third cabinet nomination, a significant milestone for the only president to secure two terms.
The new cabinet includes a mix of fresh faces and seasoned political figures. Some ministers have been reshuffled, bringing in new appointments. The Prime Minister position is filled by Agausian Ambassador to Greece and former Social Democratic Deputy Party Chair Âḱob Belani, with Zaza Ḱipaini, the former Social Democratic Party Chair, serving as deputy prime minister.
Mikeil Ḱonst́ant́ines, the current Ministry of Finance, retains his position, while former Prime Minister Mišḱo Ermolai takes on the role of Minister of Defence. The Ministry of Defence had been vacant since Ṕet́ranâ retired in 2023. Maksim Ṕanosi remains the Foreign Affairs Minister, and Simon Samtsëkože, previously the deputy PM, is now the Minister of Economy, Infrastructure, and Development.
Zurab Iličovi is nominated as the Minister of Internal Affairs, Regional Development, Tourism, and Local Economies, with Marina Temirovi-Aiseli as the Minister of Justice. Anat́oli Soplisiže is appointed as the Minister of Agriculture, Environment, and Food Policy, while Âgënḱa T́arṕini takes on the role of Minister of Health, Social, and Labor Protections. T́arṕini, formerly the Minister of Public Administration and Information, transitions to this new role.
The most controversial nomination was for the Education Minister position. Anamarâ Nëmet́i, the former Minister of Education, Culture, Research, and Sports, had held the role for fourteen years under various administrations and expressed disagreement with her forced resignation. Boris Alizade, previously the Chairman of Parliament, was appointed to the position. Allegedly, Nëmet́i's language policies, criticized by Belani, were a major point of conflict, with accusations of infringing on the language rights of Agausian Greeks and other Agausian minorities.
Some Members of Parliament have expressed both criticism and doubt regarding the replacement of the long-time Education Minister, a conservative figure and key member of the Social Democratic leadership. The current Parliament chairman Âḱob Ramont́i, Mëlo Pačulâ, and Aṕonasé Mërdati have all shared their reluctance to replace the dedicated minister.
Lastly, T́arël Arslanovi, the former deputy mayor of Bvaldâ, has been nominated to lead the Ministry of Public Administration and Information. Reports suggest that the New Socialists were initially hesitant to relinquish control of the Ministry of Health, despite the low approval ratings of former minister Ḱurani. However, after lengthy discussions, they eventually agreed to the change.
Despite some criticism from within, the coalition in parliament is likely to approve the cabinet. Gaioz Anǵeles, a member of the opposition Agausian Liberal Party, expressed the belief that the government's resignation and current poll numbers support the need for early parliamentary elections. On the other hand, Aioviḱara’s office maintains that early elections are not being considered.
