Žḱbilit́ḱali to meet with Russian counterpart

Tamara - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and Integration, Anželiḱa Žḱbilit́ḱali, is scheduled to meet with her Russian counterpart, Sergei Ryabkov, on Wednesday February 23 in Moscow. The aim of the meeting, as stated by Žḱbilit́ḱali's office, is to, "ensure the continuation of the bilateral status quo." In a joint statement the two parties welcomed the chance to strengthen ties. 

While the announcement made no mention of the current tensions between Russia and Ukraine, this meeting is widely seen as Agausia ensuring their security and stability. Tamara has always maintained warm, if not temperate, relations with Moscow. The Humdul Strait, a waterway that separates Russia and Agausia, serves as one of the only points of contention between the two.

In 2009, after the Russo-Georgian War, Agausia took a more firm stance with its neighbor. In late 2009 Russian-Agausian relations collapsed when Moscow expelled the Agausian Ambassador after an argument ensued between Russian and Agausian officials. In December of 2009 former President Melor Olarazi met with Prime Minister Vladimir Putin to normalize and repair relations. 

The meeting between Žḱbilit́ḱali and Ryabkov is not expected to bring any major changes or announcements, but it is welcomed as a sign of peace and stability.
