Tsënt́ri's Regional Council to approve creation of new village

Romada - Last month voters in Tsënt́ri region's first, second and sixteenth districts went to the polls to cast their ballots in a nonbinding referendum to decide the fate of a small settlement northeast of the city of Romda. 

Starting in 2017 the city of Romda approved construction of a unincorporated community known as Tsëmida Žvari. The community, its businesses and political workings were supervised by the city and the mayor's office. Since then, the municipality has grown and now has a population of around 2,784 people. 

In late 2019 a concerted effort was made to give Tsëmida Žvari its own status as a village with a localized government and district administrator (Ûbani Administ́rat́ori). The effort was spearheaded on the national stage by MPs Osḱur Vibst́eri (AL), who represents the first district, Lazar Ḱodošvili (PD), who represents the second district, and Almaz Ḱumenovi (AL), who represents the sixteenth district.

A secession bill introduced into the forty-four-member regional council in April of 2020 failed to pass since the Social Democrats held a supermajority. However, the results of last month's referendum found that a majority of voters voted in favor of creating a village from Tsëmida Žvari. 

Last Monday the Agausian Liberal members of the Tsënt́ri's Regional Council introduced a measure to see the voter's referendum become a reality. And since the introduction of new legislation, both the Pensioners' Party and the Communist Party of the Republic of Agausia have signaled they would be receptive to supporting the measure. 

The regional council is due to vote on the legislation later this month, and if everything continues to go down this track it appears that a new village will be established in Agausia.
