Moedani - In a video posted to social media Centre Party leader Emel Ûlvi Biniči announced that he would be dissolving his party and merging with the Democratic League of Agausia. Irine Anidaže, party chair of the ADL confirmed this move via a press release made on the party’s website. Biniči’s post also stated that twelve members of the now former Centre Party will be running as Democrats in the upcoming regional elections.
The Centre Party (TṔ) was founded in 2002 by Vikt́or Zekvaši, who is the uncle of Biniči's wife. It emerged as a significant political entity in Agausia’s Žirsi region. During its peak period, spanning from 2013 to 2018, the party held a governing position in the region and had three members in the national parliament. Subsequently, financial challenges arose, leading to significant electoral setbacks in the following years due to the inability to support candidates. In the 2022 elections, the party lost all its remaining representation when Biniči, who took over the party in 2016, lost his parliamentary seat.
With the agreement of the two parties, there is also a change in leadership. Anidaže has agreed to co-chair the party with Biniči in exchange for a strong campaign in the traditional Centre Party stronghold of Žirsi. Despite experiencing electoral setbacks, the Centre Party still holds some political influence in the area. A total of twelve former TP candidates will be competing in Tamara, Žirsi, and Mtavari Iḱ.
National opinion polls indicate that the ADL is currently at 11% popularity, making them the fourth most popular party in the country. With a total of 403 offices up for election, the ADL aims to significantly enhance their political standing in Agausia.
