Pativtsëmë - The port town of Pativtsëmë in the Borani region was the setting of New Socialist presidential candidate Vardûi Ḱovalčuḱi's first large-scale event. Ḱovalčuḱi and a crowd of nearly 200 supporters met in T́ḱbili Ambrosi park. After the event Ḱovalčuḱi's campaign made a statement online saying that they were not prepared for the size of the turnout, but "appreciated the support from each and every one that came out to support our cause against the useless establishment."
Speaking to our reporter a supporter with a shirt reading "Ḱovalčuḱi for President" told us why she was voting for the socialist candidate. "His policies make a lot of sense, and when you think about it the current President and his party hasn't made our lives any better. I live in Pativtsëmë and I plan on voting for [Gabrëli] Danvazsâ (AS) in November's election as well."
In the latest released opinion poll Ḱovalčuḱi was polling in third place with 10% of the vote. If no candidate receives at least 50% of the vote than a second round between the top two candidate, currently Aioviḱara and Kasrâni, occurs on the last Saturday in September.
While Ḱovalčuḱi is far from reaching the top two, his rise in the polls compounded with the New Socialists rise in popularity could spell good news for the socialist party in the near future.
