Agausian presidential election just one month away

Tamara - On 27 of August the Agausian people will go to the polls to vote for their next president. The current polls indicate that the first round of the election will yield no clear winner and will inevitably lead to a runoff election in September. The two candidates currently leading the pack are Simon Aioviḱara, the incumbent Social Democratic president, and Niḱolâ Kasrâni, the current Agausian Liberal governor of the Slavuri region. The two candidates have been virtually tied in the polls since March of this year. 

Despite being slightly favored in the polls Aioviḱara faces a tough election. In 2017 Aioviḱara won the presidency in the first round with nearly 52% of the vote. Since his win Aioviḱara has lost approximately 20points in the polls, while at the same time Kasrâni has garnered national recognition.

In third place is Vardûi Ḱovalčuḱi (AS) with 12%. While Ḱovalčuḱi isn't likely to make it to the second round the fact that the far-left politician has both growing poll numbers, and an increasing base is a positive sign for the future of the New Socialist Party.    

If  Aioviḱara wins reelection, he will be the first president to serve two terms, and if Kasrâni wins he will be only the second Agausian Liberal president.
