New coalitions announced

Tamara - Prime Minister Aṕolona Nebisḱopa, who has served in her post since 2015, has confirmed rumors that she will not be leading the next Agausian government. She also announced that the new government will bring together the left and center right of the political spectrum in a cross-party coalition not seen in the country for more than a decade. 

In her resignation speech Nebisḱopa stated that her time as Prime Minister have been the best years of her life, but that she knew it was time for her to step aside and let others lead. She stated that she will continue to serve as PM until parliament can officially approve the next government and cabinet.   

The announcement on Monday comes following inconclusive election results last November that led to weeks of complex negotiations between the Social Democrats and at most five different political parties. Nebisḱopa announced that the Social Democrats will align themselves with the Farmer's and Green's Union, United Alliance, and the New Socialists to form a cabinet and a parliamentary majority.  

Together, the four parties have a total of seventy-eight seats in the one hundred forty-five-seat parliament, of which forty-six belong to the Social Democrats. The next Prime Minister of Agausia is set to be Mišḱo Ermolai, who served as New Green-Left Alliance chair from 2018 until 2022. Ermolai has been a member of parliament since 1994 and previously served as the Social Democratic Party chair. 

It also appears that the National Coalition, the main opposition in Agausia, has agreed to form again. The National Coalition will consist of the Agausian Liberals, Progressive Democrats and the Conservatives. Their bloc will constituent sixty-three seats in parliament. 

The new government faces the immediate task of tackling inflation in Agausia, as well as the effects of war in Ukraine, a failing healthcare system and a pension system in dire need of reform. Despite the governments initial confidence, political analysts have reacted to the news with caution. "Given the history between the New Socialists and the United Alliance I predict that there will be an unsteady path ahead." Boris Lâmisže, political science professor at Žanžǵava University, told Tamara Ǵes.
