Romda - In a courtroom in the northern part of the city of Romda, the Agausian government, representing the prosecution, finds itself four weeks into a case against a former accountant for the Čirveuloba family, Orhan Čomsḱi. Following a six-month investigation, authorities arrested Čomsḱi, charging him with conspiracy, fraud, money laundering, and bribery. The investigation revealed that Čomsḱi acted as a liaison between members of the city government and the business owned by the Čirveuloba family.
On Thursday, the defense accused the prosecution of witness tampering, alleging coaching and scripting of witness testimonies in favor of the defendant. Lawyers engaged in a heated debate over the validity of these claims, prompting reports that the judge grew visibly annoyed with the bickering from both parties.
In April 2023, investigators released information that Čomsḱi was under investigation for a second time. He was subsequently arrested on the twelfth of October. A lawyer for the Čirveuloba family stated that, once again, Mr. Čomsḱi had acted on his own accord, and the company and its subsidiaries were mistaken for giving him a second chance.
In 2013, Čomsḱi was originally arrested and fired from his employment with the Čirveulobas after being implicated in a payment to a hitman who killed a Romda city council member in 2008. A spokesperson for the family at the time claimed they had no knowledge of Čomsḱi’s involvement in organized crime and apparently severed ties with the accountant. However, it was later revealed that Čomsḱi and his family lived in a flat owned by a member of the Čirveuloba family.
Later that year Čomsḱi plead guilty and served a sixteen-month sentence before being released as part of his plea deal. He agreed to provide information about the hitman but was unable to offer anything substantial about who ordered the hit. After his release in 2014, Čomsḱi took a job as an accountant at a subsidiary of the Čirveulobas in the city of Dačrili.
In response to the defense's motion, the judge issued a warning to both parties regarding unregulated contact with witnesses, stating that he would not tolerate such behavior and would hold both sides in contempt if it persisted.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the judge's adjudication, Čomsḱi’s lawyer announced plans to call for a mistrial. The defense intends to argue that the judge is displaying clear favoritism toward the prosecution by immediately dismissing their claims of witness tampering, despite what they assert is "overwhelming evidence."
