Pativtsëmë - On 24 February 2022, Russia began a military invasion of Ukraine, in a major escalation of the Russo-Ukrainian conflict that began in 2014. This invasion was met with a strong united front of damning economic sanctions from the west.
As the war rages into nearly its fourth week more and more countries continue to sever their ties to Russia, the clear aggressor in this conflict. Bulgaria's deputy PM announced today that when its 10-year deal with Russian owned Gazprom expires at the end of 2022, the country will look elsewhere to meet its natural gas needs.
Agausia however, has been quietly diversifying their energy market for a number of years. In 2016 officials in Tamara brokered a deal with officials from Georgia and Azerbaijan to increase the amount of natural gas Agausia would purchase via the South Caucasus Pipeline. Agausia would gain access to this resource through Georgia's Poti Sea Port.
2019 saw the completion of the Got́i extension of the Baku–Novorossiysk pipeline Agausia also received controlling stakes in the in pipeline's extension. Reports also indicate that in the last five years Agausian officials have met with their counterparts in Turkey over 15 times to discuss closer ties in regards to energy dependencies.
