Tamara - Early on Monday, the family of Superior Cassation Court Justice Órun Adigazi announced the death of the justice. The cause of death was cited as heart failure. Adigazi has had ailing health since recovering from two heart attacks: one in 2015 and one in 2019. In late March 2022 the justice announced that he intended to retire at the end of the year.
Since joining the court in 1997, Adigazi had gained the reputation of being fair and levelheaded. During his tenure he presided over several high-profile cases, and had set a precedent for howcivil and criminal law would be conducted in Agausia.
The Magistrate Council is likely to name a replacement in the coming days. Since announcing his retirement and given Adigazi's health record, the council has been busy considering replacements for some time. Although, at this time it is unclear who the magistrate council will nominate to fill the vacancy.
